A German Shepherd's Puppy Games
I have a lot of toys I play with from time to time. My Mum says I have a short attention span.
One game I love is playing ball with Mum and Dad. They play 'piggy in the middle'. I am the piggy. I love running between them trying to catch the ball. Sometimes I get 'pooped', and have to lay down for a while, but Mum and Dad keep playing and it's not long before I am on my feet and joining in again.
Another thing I love playing with is Mum's pot plants. I grab the pot, run down the back yard and rip out the plant with my teeth. The dirt falls out and I love squishing my toes into it and grabbing some in my mouth. Of course, after that, there is nothing better than to grab the now empty pot and run around the yard with it in my mouth.
Another thing I play with is newspapers and catalogues. Mum and Dad sometimes get catalogues from the letter box. I thought they'd be okay to play with, because Mum and Dad call them junk mail. But now I've learnt I have to wait until Mum and Dad have decided which ones I can have. I love ripping them to pieces. I really look forward to the days when the junk mail arrives. I get so excited and run around in circles. Then when I get them, oh boy! I grab them and run away and lie on my bed for hours, ripping them up. The next day though, when I'm outside, they all disappear. I think Mum must pick them up and throw them away. So then I have to wait for the next lot to arrive.
I do the same with newspapers. Sunday is a really good day. Once I grabbed the paper before Mum and Dad had looked at it. That wasn't a good idea - I got roused out. I hate getting roused at. Mum and Dad told me that I have to wait. So now, on Sunday, I sit and wait patiently until Mum and Dad have finished reading the paper and then they give the papers and catalogues to me and boy, do I have fun. I will post a photo of me having fun with Sunday papers.
That's all I can think for now.

The Garden
Another thing I like to do is run in the garden. Mum and Dad don't like me doing that - but it is so much fun! To run and feel the wet leaves tickle my back as I run through the plants and, to feel the soft soil on my paws. There's nothing like it.
But, sometimes, through no fault of my own, I sometimes stand on some plants and they fall down. Once, when Mia came over, we both ran into the garden and according to Mum and Dad, we destroyed the garden. But it was so much fun. Chasing Mia through the plants and jumping over some and ploughing through others. It was great.
I will admit though, after Mia left, the garden wasn't as much fun. All the plants were flattened and there were none to run through anymore. Mum and Dad said they will grow back. You just have to give the plants some time to recover.
So now I have to stay out of the garden until they recover. So I can't run through the garden anymore. Instead I've taken to running around the yard. The feel of the wet grass on my paws feels all squishy. I love it. Eventually I will get back to the garden. I'm happy with the wet grass though - for now.

Mia
My friend Mia comes over to see me sometimes and now that I'm growing bigger, I can really get my revenge on her. I can now push her over. I can lay on her and she can't get up. Because while I'm growing bigger and heavier, Mia's not. Apparently she's fully grown - that is she won't grow anymore. That's what my Mum and Dad tell me anyway. I don't understand why she's not growing, but apparently it's something to do with the fact that she's not a German Shepherd dog.
Now though, Mum and Dad tell me I'm playing too rough with her. She yelps sometimes when I sit on her or when I bite her ear. So, now I have to be gentle with her and not hurt her so much. I'm trying, but sometimes I am so excited that I forget, and then Mum has to pull me off her and force me to 'take a break'. I hate taking a break! I don't need a break! I'm fine. But I'm beginning to understand that Mia's not. She 'packs up' really fast now with only a little bit of playing time.
I wish I had a bigger dog to play with - another one like me - a German Shepherd. Then I could really play. But Mum and Dad have told me that I will be an only dog. So I'll have to see if I change their minds.

The Stairs
The day came when Mum and Dad were saying that I was getting too big and too heavy to be carried up and down the stairs. I wondered what happen now. I soon found out. One day Dad explained to me that he was going to teach me how to walk up and down the stairs on my own. I cried and cried and told him I couldn't do it, but he just kept repeating to me that I could I do it.
He firstly carried me down the stairs one step at a time and let me stand on each step for a little while, before he picked me up and carried me to the next step. When he put me down on each step, I cried. It was so high! I was so scared. I thought I was going to fall. But my Dad kept a hand on me at all times and he never left me alone.
This went on for a few days. Then, one day, I realised I could do it alone. I proudly walked up the stairs. Mum and Dad were so happy. They gave me a treat - a Smacko - chicken flavoured. Yummy. Over the next few days, I kept trying to walk up on my own. But I couldn't go down. It was too high. I just knew I would fall down.
Then came the day I actually 'beat' my Mum and Dad up the stairs. I was so happy and so were they.
Going down the stairs took some time though. I stepped down one step at a time and kept looking at the stairs all the time, to make sure my feet were firmly on each one, and to look for the next step. After a while I mastered that too. I don't have any problems now with the stairs. I can now run up the stairs two at a time. They're fun. I really don't know what all the fuss was about! Now I'm trying to see what would happen if I trip Mum or Dad when they walk up and down the stairs.
